Specialisation:

Florian Michalek specialises in organic, inorganic, biochemical, polymer and pharmaceutical chemistry, which gives him a solid and versatile basis for tackling complex challenges.

He has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent and utility model applications at Spanish, German, European and international level. Furthermore, he has been involved in litigation and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) in different technical fields.

He did his PhD thesis at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Germany) on the development of new ruthenium catalysts for olefinic metathesis immobilised in different solid phases as well as in unusual solvents such as supercritical carbon dioxide. After his PhD thesis, he joined the Institut Català d'Investigació Química (ICIQ) in Tarragona as a Post-Doc to investigate catalysts immobilised on magnetic cobalt or iron oxide nanoparticles.

Career:

Florian Michalek holds a PhD in Chemistry with a specialisation in Organic Chemistry. Florian is also a European Patent Attorney since 2011.

Florian studied Chemistry with a specialisation in Organic Chemistry (1996-2001) at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg (Germany). Furthermore, Florian completed his doctoral thesis (2002-2006) at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. From 2006 to 2008, he did a postdoctoral stay at the Institut Català d'Investigació Química (ICIQ) in Tarragona (Spain). In 2008, he started his training as a European Patent Attorney in a European industrial property office with an office in Barcelona, until he finally obtained his certification in 2011.

With more than 15 years of experience in the IP field, he has held key positions in biotech and pharma companies and headed in-house patent departments. His expertise in generic product development and the interplay between patents and regulatory exclusivity is particularly noteworthy.
